Intrauterine growth restricted rats following catch-up growth after birth have decreased expression of Mfn2 in adulthood, resulting in decreased mitochondrial fusion, which affects mitochondrial respiration patterns and mitochondrial oxidative stress, and ultimately leads to the proliferation of PASMCs and the remodeling of pulmonary vessels.
